Operation |
Performed typically in two to three hours, as an outpatient surgery in our operating facility in Hinsdale. Local anesthetic with sedation by our certified anesthetist is used. |
Scarring |
Scars are hidden in the crease behind the ear. Scars will be raised for two to three months and gradually soften until they are not noticeable approximately 4 to 6 months after surgery. |
Recovery |
A dressing is placed for the first week. Afterwards, a nighttime headband is used for sleeping for the next month |
Healing Time |
A head bandage is worn for 5 to 7 days. Light exercise can be started at 2 to 3 weeks, more vigorous sports in one to two months. |

Risks |
Infection of cartilage, excessive scarring are low risks. A blood clot that may need to be drained should be identified. Recurrence of the protrusion, may require repeat surgery. |
